2025 In-Car Payments UX Study - United States
In February 2025, a study was conducted in Chicago to assess and compare two in-car payment systems. Across five sessions, 30 participants registered for in-car payments and completed parking and charging transactions using both a live, in-production OEM service and a proposed updated version developed by Parkopedia and Valtech Mobility.
Participants interacted with both systems in a controlled, anonymized environment, ensuring fair UX comparisons. Feedback was collected through surveys and follow-up interviews, covering key areas such as enrollment, ease of use, engagement, and overall user experience.
This report explores how efficiency, simplicity, and intuitive design influence user adoption in the evolving landscape of in-car payments. It also examines emerging trends in automotive commerce and their potential impact on brand loyalty and how much drivers are willing to spend for these features.
